Hamiltonian is seeking a passionate and self-driven Development Manager to work in conjunction with the Program Manager to further Hamiltonian's mission to support emerging artists in the Washington, DC region.
The Development Manager will work under the direction and guidance of the Executive Director of Hamiltonian Artists Inc (HA), a 501c3 artist-centric art organization in Washington DC. The Manager will assist the HA board, its Executive Director and other Hamiltonian staff in developing and implementing plans and actions that will:
Expand awareness of HA among individuals, foundations, organizations, local governments, with an interest in the mission of the HA;
Further develop and promote ways of supporting HA programming and individual artist fellows;
Continue to engage potential donors and retain existing supporters via small events in the gallery, targeted mailings, and similar donor cultivation activities;
Continue to develop the base necessary for sustained funding to support the organization.
Specific tasks and responsibilities will include but not limited to:
Research appropriate funding sources based on local giving patterns and interests.
Develop targeted list of potential funding sources (corporate and stand-alone foundations, corporate gifts, wealthy individuals, business sponsors), including proposal due dates, giving history, etc.
Write fundraising letters and appeals, maintaining regular correspondence with foundations, donors, and board members, and oversee mailings.
Initiate fundraising and/or donor engagement activities and events.
Maintain and update in-house database for HA supporters and funders.
Prepare drafts of grant proposals and reports.
Prepare boilerplate information about the HA for use in proposals.
Monitor and update relevant websites (Network for Good, Guidestar).
Work with Hamiltonian Gallery to ensure that planned activities of the HA and the Gallery are complementary.
The ideal applicant will have the following qualifications.
BA required, MA a plus.
Excellent written communication, research, and organizational skills.
Ability to develop and manage budgets and prepare financial reports.
Interest in contemporary art.
Computer literacy, with experience with fundraising databases preferred.
1-2 years of experience working in non-profit development and/or arts administration.
