Sydney Schilling
Sydney Schilling is a multidisciplinary artist and designer from Iowa, currently living and working in Washington, D.C. Her practice centers on textiles, objects, and spatial design, grounded in observation, intuition, and craftsmanship. She creates work that encourages pause and reflection, offering tactile experiences that invite viewers to slow down and connect more deeply with their surroundings.
The physical act of working with her hands is meditative, allowing materials to guide the outcome. In 2023, she earned her B.I.D. in Industrial Design from Iowa State University. In 2024, she founded Studio Sydney, a creative business where she offers one-of-a-kind, handcrafted works rooted in both artistic inquiry and functional design.
Her work transcends the boundaries between art and design, aiming to build intimate connections with viewers through texture, form, and thoughtful use of materials. With a meticulous attention to detail and deep respect for process, she creates pieces that reflect playfulness, memory, and care. Sydney allows materials to lead the way, responding intuitively to their embedded histories and tactile narratives. Her growing body of work includes sculptural objects, textile compositions, and functional forms that blur the line between utility and poetry.
